The Richmond Roughriders have announced the signing of quarterback Rakeem Cato. Cato has formerly played with the Canadian Football League’s Montreal Alouettes.
He also played football while at Marshall University. He was a stud for Marshall, throwing for 39 touchdowns his junior season. That broke the school record held by former NFL quarterback Chad Pennington.
That’s not the only NFL quarterback Cato has outshined. He threw a touchdown in his 39th consecutive game his senior season. That set the FBS record for most consecutive games with a touchdown pass, once held by Super Bowl MVP Russell Wilson.
It will be an interesting quarterback competition between Cato and former Alcorn State quarterback John Gibbs, Jr.
Richmond kicks off their season on March 17 when they face the High Country Grizzlies. Their home opener is on March 31 against the Charlotte Energy. They will be looking to win their second title in two years. The title game will be held on Saturday, June 30.
