The Albany-based Arena Football League team has named George Manias their vice president of business operations. He will be working day-to-day to make sure everything is going well within the organization.
Manias brings some good experience to the team. Before joining the Albany team, he was the senior director of partnership sales of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins. Manias has also done other sports executive things over the last 30 years.
“The ability to bring my years of sports experience back home and be part of creating what we expect to be an amazing asset to the community is surreal to me,” Manias said. “I love the Arena Football League, I love the Capital Region, and I am ecstatic to get started. Our staff will have a ton of energy and enthusiasm that will trickle down to the entire fan base and all of our corporate partners.”
“I could not have dreamt of finding a better fit for this position than George,” John Adams, Albany AFL President, said on his new VP. “George and I had the opportunity to work together in 2008 when we were part of launching the Cleveland Gladiators. I know first-hand what he brings to the table and I am confident he will run this organization in a way that will make the Capital Region proud. Albany AFL fans should be excited we were able to attract somebody of George’s caliber.”
Manias has also worked with teams such as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Tampa Bay Lightning and Cleveland Cavaliers. It appears the team will have no trouble doing well in their inaugural season.
Albany was introduced to the league last month as the sixth active team. While the CBA has expired, which may mean no season in 2018, the team continues to make moves. Should there be a 2018 season, it will most likely begin in the beginning of April and ArenaBowl XXXI would be played at the end of August.
