The Grand Rapids Rampage hosted the Nashville Kats in ArenaBowl XV. Grand Rapids was playing in their first ArenaBowl. Nashville was looking for redemption after a heartbreaking loss to the Orlando Predators in ArenaBowl XIV.
Grand Rapids jumped out in front first when quarterback Clint Dolezel found Terrill Shaw for a six-yard score. Nashville struck back with a 17 yard touchdown from Andy Kelly to Tyrone Jones.
Dolezel found Shaw for another six-yard score to make it a 14-7 game. A one-yard touchdown run from Rupert Grant made it a 14-14 tie at the end of the first quarter.
Dolezel and Shaw connected for the third time, this time from 41 yards out, to give Grand Rapids the lead back. Just over two minutes later, Dolezel found Demo Odems for a touchdown to make the score 27-14. That would be the moment Grand Rapids began to pull away.
Nashville would score to close the gap at 27-21, but Grand Rapids scored the final 10 points and took a 37-21 lead into the locker. The Kats were never able to overcome. They would score, but Grand Rapids would continue to have an answer with a score of their own.
The Rampage would go on to win ArenaBowl XV by a final score of 64-42. The win was the first and only for Grand Rapids in the ArenaBowl.
Shaw, who scored six total touchdowns (five receiving, one rushing) was named the game’s MVP. Dolezel finished with 308 passing yards and seven passing touchdowns.
