The Detroit Drive and Orlando Predators faced off in ArenaBowl VI. The game was played at the Amway Arena in Orlando, FL. Detroit was coming off a loss in ArenaBowl V and were looking for another title. Orlando was playing in their first ever ArenaBowl.
The game was very close in the first quarter. The lone touchdown came when Detroit fullback Broderick Sargent ran it in from one yard out. They had a 7-6 lead after one.
Most of the second quarter was scoreless. That’s when things changed in the final three minutes. Detroit and Orlando combined for 28 points in the final three minutes and the Predators held a 23-21 lead at halftime.
Detroit began to pull away in the third quarter. Offensive lineman Flint Fleming ran the ball in from one yard out to give Detroit a 28-23 lead. Gilbert Renfroe found George LaFrance for a 24 yard touchdown later in the third to expand the Drive’s lead to 35-23. That would be the score at the end of third quarter.
A touchdown pass from Renfroe to kicker John Langeloh was the icing on the cake for Detroit. They took a 42-26 lead with 11:08 left in the game. Orlando would score, but Detroit would have an answer for each Orlando score.
The Drive would go on to win ArenaBowl VI by a final score of 56-38. The win was their fourth and final win in the big game.
LaFrance (five receptions, 67 yards, one touchdown, three kickoff returns, 105 yards) was named the game’s MVP. Fleming (two sacks) was named the game’s Ironman.
