The Cleveland Gladiators hosted the Arizona Rattlers at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, OH in ArenaBowl XXVII. The 18,410 fans were expecting to see an exciting matchup between these two teams.
Arizona got on the board first when quarterback Nick Davila found wide receiver Rod Windsor for a 41 yard touchdown. Cleveland took their turn and most thought it would be a tie game in no time. Arizona had other plans.
Kerry Reed picked off a Shane Austin pass and returned it for a touchdown. The Rattlers held a 14-0 lead. Austin would find Collin Taylor for a nine-yard touchdown. Arizona led 14-6 after one.
They took over in the second quarter. Davila three four touchdowns to four different receivers and the defense added a safety to hold a commanding 44-13 lead over Cleveland at halftime.
Two more touchdown passes from Davila brought the lead up to 58-13 with 6:49 left in the third quarter. Cleveland was never able to overcome.
Arizona would go on to win ArenaBowl XXVII by a final score of 72-32. Davila won the Offensive Player of the Game award with his 237 yards passing and eight touchdown passes. Cliff Dukes won the Defensive Player of the Game with his sack and four total tackles.
