The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks have re-signed quarterback and 2017 MVP Warren Smith, Jr. Smith led the National Arena League with 1,953 yards and 56 touchdown passes.
Led by Smith and wide receivers Darius Prince, Warren Oliver Jr. and Brandon Renford, Lehigh Valley finished the season 9-1. Their lone loss came against the Jacksonville Sharks in their lone meeting of the season.
Still, they went in to the postseason of the inaugural NAL season expected to reach the title game against the Jacksonville. With a 22-point lead over the Columbus Lions in the semifinal, they were well on their way there, too.
Unfortunately, Columbus over came the deficit and went on to pull off the upset over the Steelhawks. Their season had come to an unexpected end.
“I felt it was a game we should have won,” Prince said in an interview with Inside the Arena. “We played great for the first three quarters but when you can’t put a whole game together, that is what happens. Columbus wanted it more and they showed it.”
The Lions would go on to lose the championship game to the Sharks. While Prince is not expected to return to Lehigh Valley in 2018, fans can expect their MVP quarterback to be back, ready for redemption after missing last year’s title game.
