Richmond Roughriders Defeat Florida Tarpons to Win Arena Pro Football championship

The Richmond Roughriders hosted the Florida Tarpons at the Richmond Coliseum in Richmond, VA on Saturday. The winner would be crowned the Arena Pro Football champion.

Richmond scored the first point when opening kickoff went through the field goal post. Florida would respond with a 22 yard touchdown to take a 7-1 lead. The Roughriders would score their first touchdown on an eight yard strike to make it a 8-7 game.

Following a Florida touchdown, the Roughriders scored a touchdown of their own on a drive that took just two plays to take a 15-13 lead. The Tarpons would score in the final two minutes and held a 20-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.

After Richmond turned the ball over on downs, the Tarpons, after chewing up most of the second quarter, turned the ball over in the red zone themselves.

They would score on just the second play on their next drive to re-take the lead with one minute left in the first half. Florida scored with 10 seconds left to take a 27-22 lead into the locker room.

Richmond would score on the first drive of the second half to take the lead back. The two teams would go back and forth the rest of the quarter, and Florida took a 41-38 lead into the final frame.

Richmond scored with just over two minutes left to take a 60-54 lead. Florida would score with 51 seconds left and would make the extra point to take a 61-60 lead.

The Roughriders retook the lead with 37 seconds left. An interception as time expired clinched the Arena Pro Football championship for them as they defeated the Tarpons 74-61.
