5. Washington Valor
Ever since leading the Soul 14-0 in their second game, the Valor have not been the same team. They have now lost two games in a row and just haven’t been the same team that we saw in the first two games. They were on a bye this past week, so maybe they spent some time looking at film to see what they could improve.
4. Baltimore Brigade
Baltimore may be 1-3, but they don’t play like one. Even without wide receiver Reggie Gray, the Brigade seem to have things working. Shane Carden has proven to be a better quarterback than most thought he was. Julian Talley has been on fire the last two games, scoring five reception touchdowns.
He’s not the only one impressing, though. The defense has been stepping up their game. They showed to be a good one, getting to Hippeard several times in their last game.
There’s a few things to work on in Baltimore, but for the most part, they’re becoming more and more impressive.
3. Cleveland Gladiators
Ever since the Glads started Arvell Nelson at quarterback, they have been a completely different team. They have played much better football over their last three games than they did over their first two. That is much in part to their quarterback change. Another piece of the puzzle is the defense improving and the return of Brandon Thompkins.
At 1-4, there’s still a long road to the playoffs. They, like the Brigade, are headed in the right direction.
2. Tampa Bay Storm
Tampa Bay continues to show everyone that they are not the same team they were in 2016. They have won three games so far in 2017. That is already more than they won all of 2016.
Randy Hippeard has several weapons that make the offense successful. Joe Hills, LaMark Brown and Kendrick Ings have all been big parts to the offense. The defense has also been helpful throughout the season. The only thing they haven’t done is beat the top team on our list.
1. Philadelphia Soul
The Soul are a complete package. They have now played and beaten each team in the league. Defense has been the key to success for Philadelphia. Key interceptions
And defensive scores haven been the factor in a few of their wins.
If they want to keep their win streak going, they will have to continue what they are doing on both sides of the ball. Defense does win championships, after all.
