After losing their first game of the season, the Columbus Lions are starting to round into form after tonight’s game against the Georgia Firebirds. Columbus won its second straight game tonight by a score of 63-50. The Lions got off to a quick start when Darren Daniel found Mike Reeve for a touchdown.
The extra point was blocked, meaning Columbus led 6-0. The Lions would take a two possession lead when Kyle Grizwould intercepted a pass and took it all the way to the house for a pick six. Georgia got on the board after kicking a field goal. The Firebirds would force a fumble and then make it a one possession game after a John Harris touchdown.
Both teams would trade scores before the Lions took a 32-31 lead heading into halftime. Georgia would retake a three point lead after kicking a field goal. The lead would belong to Columbus again after Daniel connected with Tristan Purifoy for a touchdown.
The Lions would extend their lead to 17 points at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Georgia would come roaring back, as they cut the deficit to four points. Columbus would hold on, as they would defeat Georgia after scoring the next nine points. Columbus (2-1) will take on the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks next week.
