After yet another tumultuous offseason, the Arena Football League is ready to kickoff its 30th season. Joining the league are two new franchises; one of them is the Baltimore Brigade, who along with the Washington Valor are owned by Washington Wizards owner Ted Leonsis.
The Brigade instantly gained veteran AFL leadership with the hiring of head coach Omarr Smith, who coached the Los Angeles KISS to a 7-9 record last season. They also hired Virgil Gray as an assistant coach, who played for the San Jose Sabercats and won three ArenaBowls.
Baltimore’s roster is comprised of many AFL stars, including former Sabercats wide receiver Reggie Gray has been brought on board, as has China Arena Football League star Lavsier Tuinei.
Their season begins April 7 on the road against the Valor. They won’t play a home game until May 7 against the Tampa Bay Storm.
They also have the daunting task of playing in the Philadelphia Soul’s championship banner game in mid-April. Coach Smith has proven that he can take a team and make it a contender in quite a hurry.
