The Georgia Firebirds hosted the High Country Grizzlies on Saturday night. Both were looking to earn their first win of the first ever National Arena League season.
The Firebirds capitalized on a Grizzlies fumble with a field goal to take an early 3-0 lead. High Country took the lead on the next drive with a deep touchdown pass from Stephen Panasuk to Malachi Jones.
Georgia responded with a touchdown of their own when Jeffery Legree found Terrance Ebauga. They would lead 10-6 after one
A rushing touchdown from fullback Undra Hendrix gave High Country a 13-10 lead. The led after one quarter. On the next Firebirds possession, a fumble was picked up the Grizzlies and returned for a touchdown.
A deep pass from Panasuk to Darian Clark gave High Country a 26-10 lead before halftime. Legree found John Harris for a touchdown to make the halftime score 26-17.
Panasuk scored on a one-yard rushing touchdown to give the Grizzlies a 32-17 lead to begin the second half. Another Undra Hendrix score put the icing on the cake for High Country.
They would go on to win by a final score of 62-29. The Grizzlies will play the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks next weekend while the Firebirds will travel to take on the Jacksonville Sharks.
