The Columbus Lions will be one of the eight teams to compete in the inaugural National Arena League season. Along with the Jacksonville Sharks, Columbus seems to be the favorite to win it all.
The Lions have won back-to-back championships, but they were both in different leagues. In 2015, they took home the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) Cup, while in 2016 they defeated the West Michigan Ironmen in the American Indoor Football (AIF) Championship Game.
That game completed a perfect season for the Lions. In their 10 years of existence, Columbus has only missed the playoffs one time. The Lions are coached by Jason Gibson, who’s been the coach of Columbus ever since their inaugural season.
Columbus will be put to the test in their season opener, as they’ll host the Sharks at the Columbus Civic Center. Their first road game will be played against the Corpus Christi Rage at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, TX.
They’ll finish the season with three of their last four games being played on the road. Their final home game of the regular season will be played against Corpus Christi. Their last game of the regular season will be against the Georgia Firebirds. Led by an experienced coach, Columbus is poised to win their third straight championship.
