The Lehigh Valley Steelhawks have named Lauren Locust to their coaching staff. She is the first female to be named to the team’s coaching staff.
Locust was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in the state’s capital of Harrisburg. She is also the assistant varsity defensive lines coach for the Susquehanna Township school district. She has been doing that for the past eight years.
Last season, Locust was the defensive line coach of the Central Penn Capitals of the American Indoor Football (AIF). She also worked with the offensive and defensive lines of the Central Penn Piranha. That team won a league and Semi-Pro championship.
Before she was a coach, Locust played professional women’s football for four years. An injury ended her career.
The Steelhawks kicked off training camp on Feb. 26. They will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on March 11. They open their inaurgual season in the National Arena League on March 19 when they take on the Dayton Wolfpack.
