The Philadelphia Soul have re-signed defensive lineman Jake Metz. Metz led the Arena Football in 2016 with eight sacks. That performance earned him the Arena Football League Defensive Player of the Year. He also recorded 22 tackles and forced two fumbles.
2017 will be Metz third with the Soul and the fourth playing arena football. He also played with the Qingdao Clipper of the China Arena Football League in Oct. 2016. The Clipper lost the inaugural China Bowl game to the Beijing Lions on Nov, 1, 2016.
After the Soul defeated the Arizona Rattlers in ArenaBowl XXIX, Metz signed with the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL. Unfortunately, he didn’t make it past the final game of the Eagles’ preseason.
The Soul will be looking to win their consecutive ArenaBowl title in the league’s 30th season. They kick off their 2017 season on April 15 when they travel to take on the Tampa Bay Storm. Their home opener will be on April 29 when they host the Baltimore Brigade.
