The Washington Valor just signed the perhaps most marquee defensive player in the entire league Thursday evening. It was announced via Twitter the Valor had been assigned cornerback Tracy Belton.
Belton is coming off winning his first ring last season with the Philadelphia Soul, tallying eight tackles, and a special teams touchdown to help the Soul knock off the Arizona Rattlers 56-42 in ArenaBowl XXIX.
Belton is coming off a career year in 2016, he led the Arena Football League with nine interceptions, finishing fourth in the league in tackles, and won the 2016 AFL Defensive Player of the Year.
Belton will now join up other signees such as Jimmy Gordon and Everett Dawkins to play at the Verizon Center under head coach Dean Cokinos. With a signing of potential franchise player like Belton, there could be a lot to expect out of Washington’s defense when they square off with the Baltimore Brigade to kick off the Arena Football season on April 7.
