Baltimore to Add Arena Football Team

There will a fifth arena football team playing in the city of Baltimore, MD in the 2017 Arena Football League season. Nothing else has been announced yet.

The Baltimore team keeps the league on the east coast, as three of the other four teams left are on the east coast – the Cleveland Gladiators are the lone exception.

“We are looking forward to bringing an AFL team to the Baltimore community,” Ted Leonsis, owner of Monumental Sports and Entertainment, said in a statement, “Baltimore is known for its passionate sports fans, and we look forward to their spirited support of their AFL team.”

The Baltimore team is not only the second new team to form this offseason, but the second team owned by Leonsis. He also founded the Washington Valor.

The only thing known about this team is that they will play at the Royal Farms Arena in downtown Baltimore. The arena is also home to the Baltimore Blast, who just recently won the Major Arena Soccer League title.

A team name is expected to be announced within the next 30 days, according to Leonsis.
