Shanghai Skywalkers Beat Guangzhou Power in Second CAFL Playoff Game

The Guangzhou Power battled the Shanghai Skywalkers in the CAFL Playoffs on Saturday at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. Shanghai came in having missed out on the China Bowl, but they didn’t lose any of their motivation to finish the season strong. These teams met for the second time, and Shanghai has now won in both meetings. The Skywalkers defeated the Power, 57-52, as they finished the season with a win.

Guangzhou took the first lead of the game when JJ Raterink scored on a designed quarterback run. The extra point was missed, meaning Guangzhou was leading 6-0. Shanghai came right back with a score of their own after Shane Austin connected with Shaun Kauleinamoku, but the score was tied at six after a missed extra point. Shanghai couldn’t stop Dashawn Johnson all game, and he started his damage in the first quarter.

Johnson bowled over a few Shanghai defenders for a touchdown, putting the Power up 13-6. Kauleinamoku tied the game at 13 after he caught his second touchdown from Austin.

Christian Wise picked off Raterink with one hand in the end zone. Shanghai took advantage when Austin found Mike Washington for a touchdown, who celebrated the catch with a back flip. Johnson would walk in for a touchdown to tie the game at 20 apiece.

Raterink would find Lavasier Tunei from 32 yards out to give the Power the 27-20 lead. Shanghai cut into the deficit when Shuai Liu caught his fourth touchdown of the season against the boards. Shanghai would miss the extra point, so Guangzhou still led by one point. Austin would change that when he scored on a quarterback sneak, giving Shanghai a 33-27 edge.

Johnson continued his domination when he scored his third touchdown of the game to tie it at 33 apiece. Both Kauleinamoku and Johnson scored, which meant the game was tied at 40. Kauleinamoku and Washington would both score on their following possessions, which put the Skywalkers up 54-40.

Raterink would find Xun Da Qiu for a touchdown, which cut the Shanghai lead to 54-46. Shanghai went up by two possessions when Taylor Russolino kicked a field goal. Raterink rushed for a touchdown with no time left on the clock. Shanghai would defeat Guangzhou 57-52. The Skywalkers finished the season with four wins, while Guangzhou finished with two wins.
