The Beijing Lions took control in the second half of their game in Super Series IV and dominated the Dalian Dragon Kings 70-25 on Saturday.
Dalian scored early on in this one, taking a 6-0 lead. After both teams failed to convert a fourth down, they traded the lead when Beijing quarterback Luke Collis connected with Chris Dieker for a touchdown to put the Lions up 7-6, then Dalian quarterback Phillip Garcia found Kent Richardson to put the dragon kings up 13-7 after one.
Collis threw an interception on the next drive for the Lions, but it merely turned out to be meaningless as the Dragon Kings missed a field goal. The ball bounced off the left net, and Lions defensive back James Romain returned the kick for a touchdown, but that was followed by Maurice Woodard returning the ensuing kickoff for a score to give the Dragon Kings the lead back.
The Lions would then end the half with 21 unanswered points, starting with Collin Taylor catching a pass in the endzone and ending with Rustin Mayorga rushing for a score to put Beijing up 35-19 at the break.
Dalian was doomed by turnovers in the second half. Garcia threw several interceptions that led to Beijing scores. One of those scores was an interception returned for a touchdown by Romain. Beijing remains the lone undefeated team left in the China Arena Football League while Dalian remains the lone winless team.
