Beijing Shuts Down Shenzhen in Final Minute to Win 48-41

The Beijing Lions hosted the Shenzhen Naja in Dalian in Super Series II of the China Arena Football League. Both teams were looking to go 2-0.

The first score came halfway through the first quarter when Lions quarterback Chris Dieker ran it in for a touchdown. The Naja would tie it up with a touchdown pass from Xie Kun to Shida Wang. The Lions scored a touchdown as time expired in the first quarter as Dieker found Junxing Zhang.

Naja quarterback Dak Britt rushed the ball into the end zone himself on the next drive. They converted a two-point conversion to take a 15-14 lead. Dieker found Zhang again to give the Lions the lead again. The Lions extended their lead with a touchdown pass from Dieker to Neal Tivis. Beijing led 28-15 at the half.

Britt rushed for his second touchdown of the game to close the gap on the Naja’s first drive of the second half. The two teams went back and forth in the third quarter, and the Lions led 41-28 at the end of three.

After scoring with a touchdown pass from Britt to Xihne Xu, the Naja defense stopped the Lions on a 4th down. On a 4th and 9 with 1:55 left, Britt found Wang for a touchdown. The extra point was no good and the game was tied at 41 with just 1:11 left.

Luke Collis threw a short pass to Erwin Sennett Wu and he took it the distance to give the Lions a 48-41 game with 23 seconds left. The Naja were unable to tie the game and Beijing won by a final score of 48-41. They are currently the only 2-0 team in the CAFL.
