In the first week of the inaugural season for the Chinese Arena Football League, the franchise in Shenzhen showed that they plan on using stingy defense and opportune offense to inflict damage on the rest of the league. The Naja rolled through the Dalian Dragon Kings, 47-13, on Friday night at Shenzhen Dayun Arena.
The Naja (1-0) started the scoring on quarterback Dak Britt‘s rushing touchdown early in the game. The Dragon Kings tied it up when Maurice Woodard converted a touchdown on a 4th and 4 play. Later on, a poor snap by Dalian resulted in a safety, allowing Shenzhen to take a 9-7 lead. They proceeded to tack on another 13 points in a span of 3 minutes and 25 seconds to boost their lead to 22-7 heading into halftime.
The second half only continued to get better for the Naja. The defense forced three different turnovers that offense was able to convert into three scores, while the offense of the Dragon Kings could manage just six points the rest of the game.
The Naja look to follow up their strong Week 1 performance against the Beijing Lions next weekend in Dalian. Kickoff will be at 3:00 am ET, late Saturday night/early Sunday morning.
