There are a few players from the ArenaBowl XXIX champion Philadelphia Soul headed to China to play in the inaugural season of the Chinese Arena Football League. They will be looking to win their second arena football title with their prospected team.
DB Dwayne Hollis, Shanghai Skywalkers: Hollis was a huge part of the Soul defense in 2016. He was second in the league in interceptions, behind teammate Tracy Belton, with eight of them.
He also helped the Soul break ArenaBowl XXIX open with a fumble recovery the length of the field for a touchdown in the first quarter.
WR Shaun Kauleinamoku, Shanghai Skywalkers: joining Hollis is his offensive teammate in Shaun Kauleinamoku. He was another big part in the team’s win in ArenaBowl XXIX, catching the game-winning touchdown to put the icing on the championship cake.
DL Justin Lawrence, Shanghai Skywalkers: the third player from the Soul on the Skywalkers, Lawrence recorded just 14 tackles and two sacks in 18 starts for the Soul in 2016.
DB James Romain, Beijing Lions: Romain was the savior for the Soul in Arena Bowl XXIX. He recorded two interceptions in the game, including the interception at the goal line at the end of the game with the Soul leading 56-42.
DL Teddy Jennings, Beijing Lions: Jennings is a hard-hitting DT that opposing offenses should be planning for. Jennings recorded 16 tackles in 2016. He was also second on the team with five sacks.
DL Jake Metz, Qingdao Clipper
Metz may be the best American player traveling to China to play in the inaugural CAFL season. He led the Arena Football League with seven sacks and helped the team win ArenaBowl XXIX. He stripped Arizona Rattlers quarterback Nick Davila of the football late in the game, allowing the Soul to score a touchdown to seal the game.
Head coach Clint Dolziel: Dolziel is like the Bill Belichick of Arena Football. He leads this team to such high success each season and shows no emotion while doing it. He led the Soul to their second title in franchise history and will now be looking to lead the Lions to the first CAFL title.
