The Arizona Rattlers were looking to redeem themselves after a heartbreaking, controversial ending to their 2015 season.
Instead, the 2016 season ended mostly the same way.
The Rattlers began the season as the overwhelming favorite to win the ArenaBowl. Without the presence of the reigning champion San Jose Sabercats, the Rattlers took quick advantage by jumping to a 5-0 start before losing three of their next four games.
A 63-56 loss to the previously winless Tampa Bay Storm was enough for head coach Kevin Guy, and his team proceeded to win seven consecutive games and clinched the top seed in the national conference. The Rattlers rolled their way to the ArenaBowl, but they did it against teams they are a combined 17-0 lifetime against.
In ArenaBowl XXIX against the Philadelphia Soul, the Rattlers proved to be mortal as they committed 4 turnovers which cost them dearly.
So where does Arizona go from here?
They will surely be the favorite for ArenaBowl XXX, but they will need to regroup the way they did after losing ArenaBowl XXIV. After that game, it would be four long years before Arizona lost again.
