The Los Angeles KISS have officially made franchise history, as they will be hosting a postseason game for the first time in the franchise’s three seasons in the AFL. The KISS (7-8), who are having the best season in franchise history, will be hosting the Cleveland Gladiators (7-9), in a first round playoff match-up.
The game will be played on Aug. 7, at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, CA. The game will start at 3 p.m. PT, and it can be streamed on WatchESPN and ESPN3. The KISS will not be playing this game at their normal venue, the Honda Center, because the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus will be at the Honda Center until Aug. 8.
“We are thrilled the LA KISS will host the postseason allowing our KISS CORPS fan base to see their team in person,” KISS CEO Joe Windham said. “It’s a testament to how hard our coaches, athletes, and support staff have all worked together to accomplish this goal. We are also very thankful to Ernie Hahn and the Valley View Casino Center for hosting our postseason game.”
Despite losing this past weekend’s game to the Jacksonville Sharks, the KISS clinched the fourth seed after the Gladiators were defeated by the Arizona Rattlers on Sunday evening. The KISS and the Gladiators will be meeting for the third time this season, but this is the first time the two teams have ever met in the AFL postseason. LA defeated Cleveland 47-42 at the Quicken Loans Arena on April 16, and they beat Cleveland 63-61 on July 16 at the Honda Center.
“I’m extremely proud of this team and what they have accomplished so far this year in making the postseason,” KISS head coach Omarr Smith said. “We look forward to the challenge of facing the Cleveland Gladiators in our first game, and we hope all of our fans will join us in San Diego on August 7. The KISS will face the Portland Steel at the Moda Center in Portland in their final regular season game.
