The Chinese Arena Football League has everything put together for their inaugural season, that is set to begin Saturday, Oct. 1, even their medical staff.
The league has partnered with Dr. Merrick Weztler, who is the captain of the nine-man CAFL medical staff.
“I have been on tour with Doc Weztler for decades,” AFL Global president David Niu said, “when I began to realize the complex medical prevention, training needs and care needed for the full speed contact sport of arena football, I immediately thought of Doc Merrick.”
The league will also be sending six experienced professional trainers from the US to China in early September when the league kicks off their preseason camps. The trainers will work together to work on head safety throughout the season. Studies of the brain will be done with the use of EKG machines during the beginning of training camp, then re-assessed during the middle of the season and after the season ends.
The CAFL has also partnered with the donjoy company, which makes knee braces, who will provide medical equipment for the players.
