Arizona Rattlers defensive back Al Phillips enlisted in the military prior to his first season with the Rattlers.
He has since had to take a weekend with the Rattlers off to serve his country. For the last eight months, Phillips has been with the Army Reserve. Now he prepares to enter what he tells Richard Obert of the Arizona Central “the next 20 years of his life”.
“It’s a little scary” he told Obert. “We’ve got the ISIS, what’s going on with police, and the black lives matter. We’re getting it from all angles.”
He also says that his unit could be deployed at any time.
“We made a decision as an organization that’s something we appreciate and we signed him on,” head coach and general manager Kevin Guy said.
Phillips is back for the Rattlers this week as they prepare to host the Orlando Predators in the biggest game of the season. The Rattlers need to win in order to have a chance at homefield advantage throughout the entire AFL playoffs.
