8. Tampa Bay Storm
The Storm have taken over as the worst team in the league. After a sling of closely-played games, the Storm have been dominated in almost every game they have played. They were even no match for the Steel when these two teams met a few weeks ago. They are currently the eighth seed and can forget about hosting a playoff game at the Amelie Arena in August.
7. Portland Steel
The Steel are playing better football than the Storm, but that’s it. They have been dominated in most of their games, as well. At the same time, how ever, they have also played two close games with the Predators. As far as against other teams, they have been no match.
6. Jacksonville Sharks
The Sharks are on the verge of falling apart. At 5-8, they are a clear cut for the sixth seed, being so far ahead of both the Steel and Storm, but they will probably not catch the next team on our list, who with a little luck, could host a playoff game themselves.
5. Los Angeles KISS
Even with two quarterbacks starting for them, the KISS have been able to post their franchise-best with six wins thus far this season. With a little luck in their schedule, including a meeting with the next team on our list next week, the KISS could see themselves hosting a playoff game at the Honda Center next month.
4. Cleveland Gladiators
The Gladiators have a really hot team with quarterback Arvell Nelson always being able to find his two big-time receivers in Collin Taylor, who has caught a touchdown in a franchise-record 30 straight games, and Quentin Sims. They, like the KISS, have had games where they have found ways to win and ways to blow games. The KISS and Gladiators are closely contested and their meeting next weekend in Los Angeles could decide who gets the final home playoff spot.
3. Philadelphia Soul
The Soul have one of the most dominating teams in the Arena Football League. Quarterback Dan Raudabaugh has thrown for 77 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and the Soul have one of the most dominant defenses. They showed that when their defense stepped up in their game against the Gladiators on Saturday. The defense has stepped up big all season for the Soul.
2. Arizona Rattlers
Quarterback Nick Davila has led the Rattlers to the National Conference title, but there is still more work to be done. The MVP candidate has thrown for 88 touchdowns and just nine interceptions. They have the slightest of edges over the Soul for the #2 overall seed and are currently just one game behind the #1 team on our list for the top seed in the Arena Football League playoff standings
1. Orlando Predators
In for the injured Randy Hippeard, Bernard Morris has been a hot quarterback for the Predators, who have the best record in the AFL at 12-2. They have also dominated many of their opponents, including the Rattlers, who are chasing them for the #1 overall seed. These two teams face off for the second time this season next Monday in Arizona.
